Samples that were processed for the detection of each infection were as follow; detection of chlamydia, gonorrhoea and trichomoniasis 1084 samples instead of 1085 were processed; detection of syphilis 1077 instead of 1085 and for detection of bacterial vaginosis 1081 instead of 1085 samples were processed due to missing samples
  3. The HIV status of one participant was not determined and, therefore, was excluded from this analysis
  4. *A total of 143 participants were HIV positive, 44 paucigravidae and 99 multigravidae
  5. ¥ P-value obtained from the two-sample test of proportions which was used to test the difference in prevalence of each infection among HIV positive and HIV negative women
