Why breastfeed? The importance of breastfeeding

10

Key messages:

• Breastmilk is more than just food. Breastfeeding is nutritionally superior, cheaper, safer and more convenient than bottle feeding. Breastfeeding has health benefits for baby and mum.

• Consider every breastfeed is a success and that any breastfeeding is better than no breastfeeding

• Babies’ stomachs are small and they have to feed regularly day and night to consume enough ‘food’. Breastfeeding is time consuming.
