  1. aSevere maternal complications are defined as “potentially life-threatening conditions” (disease-specific, intervention specific and organ dysfunction-based criteria) [12, 22]
  2. bNear miss refers “to a woman who nearly died but survived a complication that occurred during pregnancy, childbirth or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy” [12, 22]
