Trend line for the depressed subjects is the solid black line (r2 = 0.003, p = 0.78), and the trend line for the non-depressed subjects is the heavy dashed line (r2 = −0.26, p < 0.01). The correlation between plasma cortisol and percent body fat among the non-depressed women persisted after exclusion of the highest cortisol value, (r2 = −0.32, p < 0.01).
