  2. *Rural Urban Commuting Area (RUCA) are developed by the USDA as a measure of population density, and areas near urban centers where a significant proportion of the population commutes to an urban area [45]. These codes range from 1 to 10, with higher values indicating lower population density. We define rural areas as RUCA codes 3–10, where at most, fewer than 30% of the population flows to urban areas. And urban is defined as RUCA codes 1 and 2, where at least 30% of the population flows to urban areas, or resides in an urban area (“Metropolitan core” and “Metropolitan high commuting”)
